More bigger stuff...

Well after 6 weeks of nonstop XML gauge and system programming, totaling thousands upon thousands of lines of code, my brain is utterly fried... and I'm only halfway done with the functionality in the cockpit haha.

And when my brain gets fried I need to make some art, so here's the latest repaint, an aircraft from the sadly defunct but still very cool looking Slovak air force formation team, the Biele Albatrosy ("White Albatroses").

Sweet! I love that repaint. It's similar to the one Vlad did with the F-18, which is quite nice I must say. I can't wait for this plane.

The l-39 really does do justice to every paint you put on it.

Thanks guys. :) Painting is like a vacation compared to making the plane actually do stuff properly when you flip switches and things hehe.

Sweet..I was going to do that one. Suggestion: make the blue a bit darker, it seems to be too faint, or make it less transparent. Otherwise, whee!

Lotus / Ramasurinen said...

It's faint on purpose actually, I'm messing with saturation settings to find a happy medium between up close colour and far away colour.

Objects in the distance get desaturated and lightened lot by the atmosphere. I'm finding if colours are too saturated they look too much like a toy model rather than a real plane, which you can see in the normal slovak camo model.

That's true I guess. But from far away they look like they haven't been washed in ages. And from up close, it's like you described it.

I think we've discovered another FSX bug? lol

There's a lot of things that FSX can't replicate from the real world, and light scattering, saturation, and ambient occlusion are a few of them. Everything in an addon plane is a compromise, but screenshots are also never accurate to the sim either. How it looks in the sim, in motion, is what really matters.

Great paint job...as are all the other ones. Do you know if visual aspects such as light scattering and saturation will be modelled in the next fs? Regardless, I agree with you that how it looks in motion is most important.
cheers

Thanks Kingsnake, yeah that kind of stuff is too computationally heavy to deal with in realtime unfortunately, and it will be for some years to come. All you can do is cheat.

Vlad, I'll concede after looking at a few hundred more images of the Biele that you're right and the blue is probably a little light. I've darkened it and matched up the roundels as well. Cheers.

Pics updated.

I think you got the colors right, it really is that kind of blue. I usually take a good photo and make average of each color by taking samples from a couple of areas of the same color and blending them. And Lotus if you look at my website you'll see that I like 5301 too:) Unfortunately I don't do stuff for fs anymore, at least untill I get kicked out of one school:)

Yep, like the real thing now.

The pain in the ass that I am, I've found some more wee tweaks. Right below the cockpit, on the left side, there are 5 black lines, one of them is a little short of what it's supposed to be. There is also supposed to be a little red triangle shaped warning in that black-line area.

Here's a reference picture for you, to save you some trouble.

As you can see, I like my repaints done well. :)

This is quite a nice shot and I wanted to share it with the readers of this blog.

Thanks Vitek. I'll take a look on your site hehe.

Vlad, yes you're a pain in the butt. :) I know the red ejection seat label's missing. It needs to go on a lot of the paints actually, just haven't made it yet, which I will.

The external has a lot of little things still to fix, which I'll get to right after the VC's done. I'll make a post when I think the external is officially 'done' and you guys can rip it to shreds then. ;)

Click my name to find a little surprise.... and sorry for post hacking.

Good stuff dude. Isn't XtoMdl fun? ;)

Anonymous said...

Haha, it sure is.

After reading the SDK a bit further....It's really not that fun anymore.

Lotus / Ramasurinen said...

Haha. Stick with it. The SDK has many surprises and many frustrations in store for you, including a couple of outright lies, some beneficial, some not so much. :)

You people are not going to believe the L-39 when it comes out. I'm serious. Lotus is going to blow everyone away with this thing; he's doing stuff *no one* has ever done before. However cool you think it's going to be, it's five times cooler.

Sorry, I had to crow a bit about it. It's looking incredible.

Way to make make me drool there, pebble! :)

Also,
You people won't believe the BD-5 when it comes out. Although it's just a 7mb 3ds file at the moment, it's already starting to look cool. ;)

Vlad said...

-I'm talking of Doug's BD-5, of course. Just clarifying.

I gona love you, incredible work.

Thanks Spirit. The best is yet to be shown though, got a couple months to wait. :)
